Cultural Excursions: Dijon & Colmar
Experience the best of Burgundy and Alsace

These excursions are a chance to step into French history, food, and daily life — a perfect balance to our villa time and hikes.

Day Trip to Dijon

Dijon is the historic heart of Burgundy.

Dijon was once the seat of the powerful Dukes of Burgundy in the Middle Ages.

Under their rule, the city flourished as a center of art, architecture, and learning — rivaling Paris in influence.
Walking through Dijon today feels like stepping back in time: half-timbered houses, Renaissance palaces, and the impressive Palace of the Dukes still stand proudly in the old town.

Beyond history, Dijon is a city of flavors: world-famous mustard, Burgundy wines, and spiced gingerbread that locals have baked for centuries.
A stroll along the Owl Trail 🦉 leads you through winding streets, past churches, hidden courtyards, and vibrant markets, revealing the city’s charm piece by piece.

Dijon is more than a stop on our journey — it’s a window into French history, culture, and the art of savoring life.

Travel time: approx. 2 hours by private transfer from Amage.

What’s planned:

  • A guided stroll through the historic center, with its medieval architecture and lively markets.

  • Time to visit local shops (from mustard boutiques to artisan crafts).

  • Lunch in a traditional bistro, where Burgundy wines and regional dishes shine.

Atmosphere: Dijon is elegant and historic, yet full of everyday French life — you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Day Trip to Colmar

Nestled in the heart of Alsace, Colmar is one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into the pages of a storybook.

With its colorful half-timbered houses, flower-decked canals, and rich history, this little city has been called “the most Alsatian of Alsatian towns.”

A Glimpse Into History

  • First Mentioned in 823 – Colmar’s roots stretch back to the 9th century. By 1226, it became a Free Imperial City under the Holy Roman Empire.

  • Turbulent Past – Over the centuries, Colmar switched between French and German rule multiple times, which explains its fascinating blend of cultures, languages, and architecture.

  • Artistic Legacy – Colmar is the birthplace of Auguste Bartholdi, the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty. You’ll even find a replica of Lady Liberty at the north entrance of the city!

Travel time: about 1.5 hours by private transfer from Amage.

What’s planned:

  • A leisurely walk through the Old Town, with its colorful timbered houses and canals.

  • Lunch in a local restaurant, highlighting Alsatian specialties.

  • Free time for shopping, photos, and a little people-watching in the charming squares.

Atmosphere: Colmar is picturesque and storybook-like — every corner feels like a postcard.

Both cities offer a taste of local history, culture, and cuisine — the perfect complement to our yoga and hiking days.
